Course Description

NB This course is not for complete beginners. You must have completed other GCDA sewing courses to take part in the How to Use a Commercial Pattern course. If you have not, or are in any doubt about your level, please contact maryjane@gcda.org.uk During this 6-week course, our tutor Mary Jane Baxter will show you how to use a commercial sewing pattern to create your own pair of drawstring trousers/pyjama bottoms. You’ll learn how to measure your body accurately, choose the right size, select suitable fabric and interpret all the signs and symbols so that you’ll feel confident about creating your own garment using a commercial paper pattern. Learners will all use the same pattern, so that everyone can support each other during the process. NB: You must purchase your own pattern (Simplicity 1563) and fabric to take part in this class, and learners will also need to bring a basic sewing kit of fabric scissors, pins, thread, needles, and a fabric marking pen with them to each session. Please note we now require a £10.00 deposit which is refunded on completion of the course and on request. If this is a problem, please contact: learning@gcda.org.uk. Please bring your proof of ID & NI number to the first session of the course, as an enrolment form needs to be completed. Once you have registered you have agreed to our terms & conditions.
