Volunteers’ Week (which runs from June 1st - June 7th) is an annual UK-wide campaign which celebrates and recognises the contributions of volunteers. Launched in 1984, this initiative has been running for over 40 years, providing organisations and communities with a platform to thank current and past volunteers for their incredible contribution.
Here at GCDA we work with many volunteers. Their contribution is invaluable to the communities we serve, and we couldn't do our job without them. Their talents, life experience and generosity play an important role in helping support what we do. We currently have 30 volunteers on the books, and work with the Volunteer Centres in both Greenwich and Bexley to advertise the roles that we have.

People volunteer for many different reasons. Some find themselves out of work and want to gain new skills. Others want to get out of the house and meet new people or contribute to the community they live in.
GCDA staff are also encouraged to volunteer and are paid for 14 hours of volunteer work pro rata.
A number of GCDA staff members started out as volunteers. One of those is Emma Rockman, who first got to know GCDA by taking one of our businesses courses. Emma is now a Community Assistant at GCDA's Kidbrooke Community Hub.

It's never too late to volunteer. Sue Fuller who is 69 was recently awarded recognition for her services at the recent Royal Greenwich Civic Awards at Woolwich Town Hall.
