Course Description

So many people feel the urge to write but don’t know where to start. That’s exactly what this 7-week introduction to Creative Writing is designed for—a supportive, inspiring space to explore your creativity and let your voice shine. With a different focus each week, we’ll journey through various styles including Fiction, Memoir, Story, Character and Drama using playful prompts, dynamic exercises, and fresh bursts of inspiration. Step by step, you’ll discover how to shape your ideas into stories and uncover your own authentic, unique voice. With 20 years of experience as an actor and facilitator, Debra brings a creative, energetic approach that’s both encouraging and challenging. Together, we’ll break through doubts, spark your imagination, and transform how you think about writing. By the end, you’ll have more than just pages of new work—you’ll have a newfound confidence, tools, and a creative spark to keep writing long after the workshop ends. No experience needed—just curiosity, courage, and a story to share. Please note there will be no session during half term on Monday 27th October. Due to large numbers of people booking onto our courses and not turning up, we are now taking a £10 deposit for each course to help ensure attendance. You will be eligible to get the deposit back if you attend every session. Or, if you can’t attend, you must: · Email or contact the tutor or admin team on Learning@gcda.org.uk to let them know you can’t make it. · Still attend at least 70% of the course. Do not book on if you think you cannot attend 70% of the course. · You must give 24 hours notice to be eligible for the refund · If you don’t show up and don’t get in touch, you will lose your deposit. If leaving a £10 deposit is a barrier because of financial difficulties, please contact Learning@gcda.org.uk to talk to us about this You must request the return of the deposit. The request must be made within 7 days of the course finishing.
