Course Description

Please note: This course is not for complete beginners. You must have completed other GCDA sewing courses and have experience of making clothes. You also must have a basic understanding of maths. It is essential you attend all sessions. Take your garment-making skills to the next level with this advanced course. Designed for students with strong machine sewing experience and who has already made clothing as this course focuses on pattern cutting and block making, the essential foundation for accurate garment making. You’ll learn how to measure the body, draft a personalised block, and create a toile (fabric sample) to test and refine the fit. By the end, you will have a correctly fitted block and some technical skills to adapt patterns and explore your different design ideas. On this course you will learn: • How to take accurate measurement for the whole body • How to identify and use various measuring and pattern making tools • Draft a 2D Master Pattern • Sew a toile (sample 3D from the 2D pattern) • Learn and sample various pattern making techniques for garment making Please note: This course is not for complete beginners. You must have completed other GCDA sewing courses and have experience of making clothes. You also must have a basic understanding of maths. You need to bring: • Tape measure (metric) • 3H pencil or retractable technical pencil • Pen • Rubber • Masking tape • Scissors for paper cutting only For the sewing and sampling side of the course • Light to medium weight cotton fabric (this will be discussed in class) • Thread for sewing (black or white) • Hand sewing needles Please note we now require a £10.00 deposit which is refunded on completion of the course and on request.
